FISP, formerly Local Law 11, mandates regular inspections of building facades over six stories in NYC to ensure public safety and prevent accidents caused by facade deterioration.
FISP inspections are required every five years during an assigned cycle determined by the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB).
It includes visual and close-up inspections of all exterior walls, including balconies, parapets, windows, and architectural features, to identify unsafe or deteriorating conditions.
Facades are classified as Safe, Safe with a Repair and Maintenance Program (SWARMP), or Unsafe, depending on their condition and repair needs.
Failure to comply with FISP regulations can result in DOB violations, fines, and potential risks to public safety. Immediate repairs are required for unsafe conditions.
